According to the India times report, citing the India Lighting Association (ELCOMA), the Department of urban development in India has asked 100% of the country's state governments to replace the LED street lights.
The renovation project will have 27 million 500 thousand street lamps replaced by LED street lights, which will cut India's electricity consumption by more than 5000 megawatts in three years.
The demand was followed by a street light survey conducted by the energy efficiency Agency (BEE), which showed that the installation of the 80% India street lamp was substandard. Light distance, type and luminaire height are not taken into account, indicating that lighting is not the only reason for changing streetlights.
The government of India has appointed Energy Services Limited (EESL) to finance and install the LED system. The street lights will be replaced in stages. EESL has begun to develop quality standards for qualified suppliers to ensure good quality LED streetlights.
